St. Matthew's is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a member of the South Carolina Synod. The congregation was officially organized in 1890.

In the early days St. Matthew’s was yoked with other Lutheran Churches in the area and shared pastors with them. Since 1953 St. Matthews has been served by full time pastors, has grown over the years, and has expanded its facilities several times to meet the needs of the congregation and the community.

Our pastor is The Reverend Robert L. Helton, Jr. a 1979 graduate of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and a 1974 graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University.

He has served parishes in North and South Carolina and served as a US Army Chaplain for twenty years.
